Public schools are still having difficulty guaranteeing that their students get high marks on Enem (National High School Exam).

The highest averages for schools on the exam in 2016 bear out this reality: only about 1 in 10 of the schools in the top 10% group are public schools - the majority of these federal, technical, or application schools.

At the other extreme, in the group at the bottom 10%, all of the 831 schools are state public schools.

In general, these institutions enroll students from privileged socio-economic levels and select and admit their students through a mini-entrance exam process.
