http://contrapunto.com/noticia/ivad-contradice-a-hinterlaces-asegura-que-henri-falcon-ya-supera-a-maduro-en-preferencias-186105/Unfortunately, the only opposition that Maduro will allow to run against him as a disaffected Chavista (Falcon, aka "Maduro Lite" and another perpetual presidential candidate (Allup) who is despised by the people as much as Maduro is. Not that an actual vote matters, as Chavistas cannot count anyway... they always have more votes for them than voters in their districts.
Apparently, 55% for PSUV and 45% for all other parties typically result in 117% of all eligible voters...

(2,412 posts)Last year, the average Venezuelan lost over 19 pounds on the Maduro Diet. Mostly parent skipping meals so their kids could eat. But since last years "legalized looting", now grocers aren't restocking their shelves. There is no food to be had at any price.

(10,197 posts)Trump got the majority of the women vote.....you know in your heart that is not true. It's because of Russia rigging our elections for Trump.
Do you think maybe the US is rigging things with their money in Venezuela elections just like Russia does in ours?
You know who really hates Venezuela and Chavistas the most? RepubliCONS, Trump and the Koch brothers. That's why our tax dollars go to funding the opposition parties in Venezuela.
We pay so that Venezuela has riots in the streets while our sick and poor die from lack of medical attention.

(2,412 posts)Trump wasn't president when Chavez attempted his first coup in 1992.
He wasn't president in 1999 when he was elected president of Venezuela as a populist
He wasn't president in 2002-3 when he fired every oil rig worker who went on strike for living wages
He wasn't president in 2003 when he introduced "currency controls"
He wasn't president in 2008 when he devalued the Bolivar
He wasn't president in 2007-12 when he "nationalized" 1147 businesses (now over 4000)
He wasn't president in 2015 when Maduro went full tilt dictator and refused to recognize the new super-majority National Assembly, pack the TSJ (Supreme Court) with lackeys, ash-canned the Constitution and disallowed recall elections.
Trump (for all his epic failings) isn't the least bit responsible for the shit-storm that is Venezuela.
So I ask again, how is this about Trump?

(2,412 posts)Everywhere you look, its an epic fail.
Even the shining star of the region, Evo Morales in Bolivia is turning to authoritarianism. Despite the voters and Bolivian Constitution making it clear that term limits are what they want, he feels that he is "too important" to be constrained by such trivialities as the whims of the citizen.
Or is there some other example that you think we should look to?
Castro's Cuba?

Most of the Chavista hierarchy is Cuban educated.
