VZ National Guard kidnaps men, request ransom to be paid in diapers

They arrested five GNB officials for extorting two young men
The guards took the young people to their homes, told them that they had to pay 60,000,000 bolivars* and a bundle of diapers

The Military Counterintelligence Directorate arrested five officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) who were extorting two young men at Waikiki beach in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo state.

The journalist Román Camacho explained that the GNB troops approached the people and asked them what they were doing on the beach. The officials, not agreeing with the response, accused them of stealing copper cables in the area, beat them and mounted them in a van.

Then the guards took the young people to their homes, told them they had to pay 60,000,000 bolivars and a bundle of diapers, otherwise they would kill one of them. The troops freed one to get the money, however, the young man went to the DGCIM to coordinate the rescue of the other victim.

The detained officials were identified: First Lieutenant Henry Querales, Sergeant Major Franklin Sepulveda, Sergeant Eduardo Gámez, First Sergeant Ramón Alarcón and Second Sergeant Andreina Chirinos.

*About $200 and diapers. I imagine the diapers were harder to come by than the loot.

The GNB are not trained in any traditional sense. Typically, they are Chavista loyalists who are given a uniform, a weapon and authority to use it in defense of Chavismo. GNB stands for Guardia Nacional de Bolivariana... not Venezuela. They do not serve Venezuelans. They serve Chavismo.
