Total collapse of transportation sector in Venezuela

"90% is paralyzed": Intergremial Transport Command announced total collapse
By Digital Caraota -June 5, 2018

José Luis Trocel, general secretary of the Inter-State Transport Command announced on Tuesday the "total collapse" of the service with a 90% stoppage.

"There is a chaos, a total collapse produced by the deficit of units, which is 90%," Trocel told the news agency EFE, which said he began to issue warnings about the crisis in the sector in 2015 and since then, the situation worsened to critical levels.

EFE could verify this Tuesday that some workers of Caracas walked several kilometers to get to their offices, while others moved from dormitory cities to the capital in cargo trucks that have become improvised transports popularly called "kennels".

According to the trade union representative, about 300,000 transportation units operated in Venezuela before the economic crisis -translated in hyperinflation and shortage of basic products- increased the cost of spare parts and the disappearance of oils and other materials for maintenance, which left 90% of they in "technical stop".
