Anti-corruption senator moons Colombia's Congress in call for discipline
by Adriaan Alsema July 23, 2018
Colombias Congress has begun a new legislative term, and was almost immediately treated to the shiny white buttocks of anti-corruption Senator Antanas Mockus.
The first day of the legislative term was already going to be special because it was the first day that former leaders of demobilized guerrilla group FARC took place in Congress.
For decades, the lawmakers paid soldiers were ready to kill the former guerrillas, and now they had to debate with them between honorable representatives.
But Mockus, not the FARC, got most the attention and knew best how to offend the members of what is widely considered Colombias most corrupt institution.

He left office as the president of the National University of Colombia in Bogotá in 1993, and later that year ran a successful campaign for mayor. He proceeded to preside over Bogotá as mayor for two (non-consecutive) terms, during which he became known for springing surprising and humorous initiatives upon the city's inhabitants. These tended to involve grand gestures, including local artists or personal appearances by the mayor himselftaking a shower in a commercial about conserving water, or walking the streets dressed in spandex and a cape as Supercitizen. On 4 March 2010, he was elected in a public consultation as the Colombian Green Party candidate for the presidential election in 2010.
