Plan 50: Chavismo unilaterally rolls out new "guaranteed prices" on basic goods.

In the framework of the 50 plan, the government notified last week to the industries the new prices agreed upon at the tables.

First came the announcement of the tables, then the meetings by sector and then the notification of the new prices of the products.

Last week the companies producing table rice, pasta, table sugar and precooked flour began to distribute the products with the new prices of their products.

The new prices for the presentations of a kilogram are: Corn Flour: Bs. 748,000; Pasta Bs. 1,640,000, Rice Bs. 808,000 and Sugar Bs. 606,000.

We do not know how long these prices are and how often they will review them since we are in hyperinflation.

Maduro decided nearly a month ago that he wanted to sit down with producers and wholesalers and retailers and come up with a joint plan (no dictates, no preconditions) to stabilize food prices for 50 key items for El Pueblo. He called it Plan 50. That plan lasted for as long as Maduro could hold his breath, as he then said that should his ideas (dictates) not be implemented, the businesses would be nationalized.

A month and a half later, and it appears that the prices have skyrocketed (a carton of eggs cost more than a months wages) and what was available at the cost of dollars has disappeared altogether.

But, Maduro blames the hyperinflation on "The Economic War" and not his outrageous economic policies.
