(CNN Spanish) - The president of Paraguay , Mario Abdo Benítez, announced on Thursday that his country breaks diplomatic relations with Venezuela.
The announcement came after the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro as president of Venezuela for the period 2019-2025.
Abdo Benitez announced that the embassy will be closed and diplomatic staff will be withdrawn. He added that this does not mean that Paraguay fails to comply with its international commitments or that it does not know the debt they have with PDVSA.
In addition, he sent a message of solidarity for the people of Venezuela.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, begins another six years in power on Thursday with a collapsed economy that shows no signs of hitting the bottom and a threat from some Latin American neighbors who say they will not recognize their government.
