Attempt to assassinate Venezuela's Maduro was planned in Colombia: CNN

by Jake Kincaid March 17, 2019

An assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was planned in Colombia by Venezuelan oppostition figures who were in touch with US authorities, CNN reported Friday.

The reports add credibility to Maduro’s longtime claim that Colombia is being used as a base for attacks against Venezuela. Both Colombian and US authorities have long denied the claims were false, but appear to have been lying to the public.

The self-proclaimed masterminds behind the attack said they had been planning the attack from an undisclosed ranch in Colombia where the men armed the drones bought in the US with explosives.

Having successfully carried out the preparations in Colombia, the drones were deconstructed and smuggled in parts into Venezuela to carry out the assassination attempt on Maduro, whose legitimacy s president is disputed by more than 50 countries, particularly Colombia and the US who have refused to rule out the use of violence.

1. Just to add some balance to the breathless headline

Here's a key paragraph:

"The organizer of the attack told CNN that the Colombian government was not directly involved in the ploy carrying out with Venezuelan deserters, who receive support from the Colombian and US governments. The alleged masterminds claimed they met with US officials on three occasions after the attack, but that the Americans provided no assistance."

3. Here's all the proof you need that the US was involved:

See, they paid for the drones with explosives. LOL

Whoever wrote that sentence needs to be beaten. My 9th grade English teacher, Mrs. Cooley, would have frowned on that one.

You should make time to focus your attacks on real substance.

Apparently you are attempting to distract from the actual information published.

sarcasm!

And actually, my original point was that the way the sentence is constructed, it appears the drones were bought in the US with explosives.....as in, paid for with explosives.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that.

7. This is a lie. This is not what CNN reported. The US contacted the assassins AFTER the incident.

The attacker claimed that he met with several US officials three times after the attack. "After, they set up three meetings which I imagine was to collect information to study the case, but it didn't go past that," he said.

"They wanted to get information and then we asked for things in return. They took notes on this, and we asked if they would be able to help. Then they simply left with their notes, and they never appeared again."

A US State Department spokesman declined to comment on the alleged meetings, but said: "Our policy is to support a peaceful transition in Venezuela." CNN has not found proof that the meetings happened.

The US were in touch with the assassins AFTER the incident.

10. Wanna read what the OP actually says?

The OP implies that CNN reported that the assassins were in contact with the US before the attempt, when CNN actually reported that they were in contact after the attempt.

11. I read it. I just don't believe for a minute that the US had no involvement.

IMO it's exceedingly naive to think there was no prior involvement by the US if one knows anything of the history of our well documented involvement in coups, occupations, wars, assassinations and covert operations in just about every country in this hemisphere over the last century.

13. Of course but considering history, the odds strongly favor US involvement...

what with all that oil at stake.

Again, IMO, it's highly naive to think there was no US involvement.

It'll eventually come out.
