2018 was one of the worst years for Colombias social leaders, and 2019 is already exponentially worse

As Colombias government makes promise after promise of action, violence against Colombias social leaders is exponentially increasing, according to a thinktank.
Last year was 44% more violent than 2017, with 805 acts of aggression, including 155 assassinations. 2017 was Colombias most peaceful year for decades except for those in key community leadership roles.
. . .
The violence Colombias leaders are suffering
While the peace process largely ended violence between the state and the FARC guerrilla group, the peace deal triggered an exponentially growing wave of political and economic violence targeting human rights defenders, community leaders and social activists.
This is partly due to illegal armed groups opposition to the peace deals counter-narcotics and land restitution programs, and partly due to violent political opposition to the peace process, and political and social inclusion by the extreme-right.
