Spain asks former Latin American colonies for investment to help it through financial crisis

Spain asks former Latin American colonies for investment to help it through financial crisis

CADIZ, Spain - Spain's prime minister on Saturday joined its king in asking former Latin American colonies to help the EU nation overcome a deep financial crisis by channeling investments its way.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Spain had invested heavily in Latin America when it suffered a crisis 10 years ago, and now that the roles were reversed, he called upon those nations to increase their participation in his country's economy.

"Spain receives Latin American investment with open arms," he said.

Rajoy was speaking at the Iberoamerican summit being held in Spain's southwestern port of Cadiz, once the country's gateway for importing Aztec and Inca treasure.

King Juan Carlos made the same plea Friday, saying "our eyes turn to you, we need more Latin America."

..."shut up"--and how that went all viral and everything, and all the 1%-er propagandists thought it was so wonderful that the 'king' pissed on the elected president whose government and people inspired and pioneered Latin America's New Deal-type prosperity?

Gawd.

Of course, WHY President Chavez spoke spoke out of turn, and got told by the 'king' to shut up, at that meeting, never got any notice in the corporate press: That Spain had colluded with the Bush Junta in the 2002 coup d'etat attempt in Venezuela and Spain's phony "austerity" socialists were covering it up! If that coup d'etat had succeeded, it is arguable that the shared prosperity of Latin American countries which have elected leftist governments would not have occurred. All would likely have gone the way of Colombia and Honduras--U.S. client states with huge discrepancies between rich and poor, bloodied by the corrupt, failed, murderous U.S. "war on drugs." Thousands more labor union leaders and other advocates of the poor would have been murdered. Millions more small farmers would have been displaced from their lands. Millions more Latin Americans would have been denied education and health care and decent wages/benefits. Billions of dollars more in Latin American wealth would have been sucked out of Latin America by U.S. transglobal corporations, the World Banksters and other money vacuumers.

The Venezuelan peoples' success at overturning that horrible coup and their government's subsequent defiance of Wall Street dictates, and creation of prosperity for all BY defying Wall Street's dictates, inspired the entire region and set its leftist democracy revolution in motion.

Spain was willing enough to suck money and resources out of Latin America when it had the backing of the Bush Junta, and, of course, was gluttonous and, God knows, murderous, under its 'kings' during centuries of exploitation. Now they want Latin America's help? The irony is excruciating.

But Latin America's new leftist leadership should be wise and cagey in their response--and certainly have the intelligence and vision to turn this moment to good purpose. How about they require that Spain drop its "the rich get richer" 'austerity' in exchange for investment? If they can bail out Spain by providing an example of how prosperity for all is created, they would bolster their own revolution and maybe save us all--cuz "austerity" ain't gonna do dick for anybody but the richest few, monstrous transglobal corporations and war profiteers.
