Venezuela Exodus Is as Big as Syria's, Yet Got 1.5% of the Aid

Next year, the number of people who’ve fled Venezuela’s economic collapse is projected to surpass the 6 million Syrians driven from their country by civil war. Yet so far they’ve received only 1.5% as much help from international donors as Syrians had five years into their crisis. While Syrian migration became an issue for wealthy European nations, the 5,000 Venezuelans leaving every day mainly congregate in poor countries like Colombia. “No rich country’s skin is in the game,” said Dany Bahar, a Brookings Institution economist.
