Nicaragua conducts geothermal energy studies
Managua, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) The modern geochemistry laboratory of the Nicaraguan Electricity Company (ENEL) is conducting studies in areas of geothermal interest and geothermal fields, according to a digital newsletter.
Geothermal energy is the second most widely available source to generate clean energy in Nicaragua, Informe Pastran recalled.
The development of this energy source requires multiple studies in order to identify the characteristics of the geothermal fields in exploration and exploitation, the publication said.
The best use of a geothermal resource implies applying three geosciences: geochemistry, geophysics and geology.
In Nicaragua's case, the areas of Laguna de Apoyo, the Mombacho Volcano and the Casitas-San Cristobal Geothermal Project are in the exploration phase. They are volcanoes where the highest generating potential is concentrated.
