Salvadorian Ex-Cop Arrested As 10 Bodies Found On His Property

Natalia Ningthoujam | May 17 2021, 12:12AM EDT

Police have found 10 bodies at the residence of a former Salvadorian cop, who has been arrested for killing two women.

The former cop, Hugo Osorio Chavez Osorio, 51, was detained earlier this month for killing a woman and her daughter. Following his arrest, his house in the eastern town of Chalchuapa was searched. The police found seven pits with 10 bodies, some of them were believed to have been buried up to two years ago, reported ABC News.

He has been in trouble in the past as well. Osorio was earlier investigated for sex crimes. He is now facing charges in the murder of the 57-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter. He admitted to murdering them.

On the basis of information regarding the case, arrest warrants have been issued for nine other suspects who may have acted as accomplices in the murder of 13 people, including the killing of eight women. According to the prosecutors' office, the victims may include minor girls aged nine and seven along with a child as young as two years old.

Ex-cop Hugo Osorio Chávez Osorio, 51, was detained last week for killing a woman and her daughter.

The search turned up seven pits that held 10 bodies, some of which may have been buried up to two years ago.

Clandestine cemetery in Chalchuapa is believed to contain as many as 40 bodies – most of them thought to be women

Authorities in El Salvador are excavating a clandestine cemetery at the house of a former detective which is believed to contain as many as 40 bodies – most of them thought to be women.

The remains of at least 24 people have been recovered so far at the house in the municipality of Chalchuapa, about 48 miles (78km) north-west of the capital, San Salvador. Exhuming the bodies could take another month, officials said.

The search began after the former officer, Hugo Ernesto Osorio Chávez, 51, was detained earlier this month for killing a woman and her daughter. The suspect, who had previously been investigated for sex crimes, confessed to killing the two.

But when forensic teams searched his house, they discovered at least seven pits containing bodies, some of which may have been buried as long as two years ago.

Prosecutors have issued arrest warrants for nine other suspects who may have acted as accomplices.

Standing out in your Guardian article is the revealing bond Osorio had with his partners-in-crime:

Prosecutors have issued arrest warrants for nine other suspects who may have acted as accomplices.

Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, director of El Salvador’s national civil police, said on Wednesday that the suspects included former police officers and former soldiers as well as people smugglers and others who helped lure the victims to their death.

On Thursday, dozens of people who believed their missing relatives could be among the bodies gathered outside the house, which was guarded by a heavy police presence.

Sounds very much like the confessed murderer and company developed an appetite for power, control, and blood letting, with the government's blessings during the ongoing genocide which lasted for years, against the indigenous, helpless, hopeless villagers and campesinos of El Salvador: people whose absolute poverty, without access to protections, left them all totally vulnerable, just as women are similarly vulnerable without strong, influential family members and allies to protect them if they are confronted in situations which might require any trust in strangers at close range.

Suddenly a very large leap in victims looms into view. It was awful, before this! Not a good breakthrough, at all. Hope absolutely every lost soul connected with this nightmare will be accounted for.

The tough guys apparently missed their happy days murdering citizens with the government's blessings, as agents of genocide. They couldn't live without taking life.

Thank you for the new information.
