The Right in Peru calls for ASO inspection of ballotsLima, June 24 (Prensa Latina) Rightist Lourdes Flores asked today Peruvian president Francisco Sagasti to request an inspection from ASO to the presidential ballot, 'as it was done in Bolivia', where a similar intervention led to a coup d'état.

Flores, allied to defeated Keiko Fujimori, stated the intervention of the American States Organization (ASO) after judge Luis Arce left the National Election Jury (NEJ), despite the fact that the law prohibits him to resign during the electoral process as the present one.

Arce's decision left the high electoral jury without quorum to end Fujimore's requests for nullity, evicted from lack of legal support and backed by the resigning during the jury's hearings, and to proclaim president the winner of June 6 ballot, Pedro Castillo.

In a radio interview, Flores, ex-leader of rightist Christian Popular Party (CPP) who joined the campaign to discredit the official numbers won by Castillo, held that the solution to the crisis is that Sagasti calls for an AEO inspection.

A measure like such gave way in Bolivia in 2019 for the ASO to issue vague reports with fraud insinuations, helping to trigger actions from the Right to force president Evo Morales from Movement to Socialism (MS) to resign.

The possibility of a fraud was ruled out by an analysis carried out by US experts, and more than a year later, Luis Arce, candidate from MS won the presidency with even bigger numbers than those from Evo Morales in 2019, Castillo's lawyer, Julio Arbizú, reminded.
