Journalists protest over killing of colleague in Mexico

JOURNALISTS marched through the Mexican Gulf coast state of Veracruz on Thursday in protest against the killing of a radio journalist.
Jacinto Romero Flores was gunned down in Potrerillo, in the town of Ixtaczoquitlan, Veracruz state security agency leader Hugo Gutierrez Maldonado announced through Twitter.
Mr Gutierez said state police were carrying out an operation in the area following the killing.
The 60-year-old journalist worked for Ori Stereo, which confirmed his death.
The station said in a statement: The media are not the cause nor the effect of violence in the country, but we do suffer the consequences for carrying out journalism and communication.
Mr Romero Floress murder was condemned by the state commission for attention to and protection of journalists, which urged the prosecutors office to open a full investigation including into whether his work played a role in the attack.
Press freedom organisation Article 19 said Mr Romero Flores had received threats.
