US Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson ordered on Tuesday that former the former president of Peru, Alejandro Toledo, be extradited to Peru.
Toledo fled to the US after the Republic of Peru charged him with collusion and money laundering. The US also filed criminal charges against Toledo, accusing him of violating the Peruvian Criminal Code by influence peddling, colluding, and money laundering in Peru. Soon thereafter, the court ordered Toledo detained.
In August, Peru submitted a supplemental extradition request containing criminal information against Toledo, including details relating to the collusion and money laundering charges. Within a month, Toledo filed a motion to deny extradition and argued that the US and Peru lacked probable cause he committed the charged offenses. The US, however, countered that there was probable cause and asked the court to deny Toledos motion and certify his extradition.
Judge Hixson pointed to Article I of the US-Peru Treaty, which requires the US to surrender and extradite fugitives charged with an extraditable offense. Extraditable offenses are those that are punishable under the laws of both the United States and Peru by a deprivation of liberty for a maximum period of more than one year or by a more severe penalty. The court found that Toledos
conduct that is the subject of the collusion charge would be punishable under [US] law as conspiracy to defraud the United States . . . and the conduct that is the subject of the money laundering charge would be punishable as money laundering or as transporting funds for the purpose of laundering.

You recall Peru's President Fujimori, who's still either in prison or at home under house arrest due to his claims he is very ill, after a career of massacres, sterilizing terrorism, absolute corruption, has a daughter who has run for Peru's Presidency twice as the prominent leader of Peru's right wing, was succeeded by President Alan Garcia, who was being arrested in the last year or two when he went to another room in his house and shot himself dead, and a succession of others who have been pounded into pulp, figuratively, by the right-wing, as time after time Peru goes through the charade of continuing elections.
They will be likely to find a way to end their current progressive President, a man of character, so they can finally slip Keiko Fujimori right into place, if she isn't in prison after her upcoming trial for corruption! Unbelievable.
Reminder of the horror show of previous President Alberto Fujimori:
Forcibly sterilized during Fujimori dictatorship, thousands of Peruvian women demand justice
March 3, 2021 8.25am EST
The regime of Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori sterilized 272,028 people between 1996 and 2001, the majority of them Indigenous women from poor, rural areas and some without consent.
Now, in public hearings that began earlier this year, thousands of these women are demanding justice for what they say were forced sterilization procedures called tubal ligations.
Sterilization was a covert part of Fujimoris family planning policy, which purported to give women the tools necessary [for them] to make decisions about their lives. But in fact, as revealed in government documents published by the Peru human rights ombudsmans office in 2002, the regime saw controlling birth rates as a way to fight resource depletion and economic downturn.
These were euphemisms for what Fujimori, and past leaders of Peru, referred to as the Indian problem higher birth rates among Indigenous people than Peruvians of European descent. And since Indigenous women of Quechua descent had the highest poverty rates in Peru, they were the governments main target for family planning.
