The Great Jamaican Journalist Batbata Gloudon died

A week after her husband. A Trinidadian by birth, he was the premier expert on all things orchids in Jamaica (as you will see), Babs or Miss G was huge in Jamaican theatre and the Anglican Church. She was also long associated with UNESCO. Babs also worked with the BBC in England,

This is Jamaican ‘high church’ on display at its best for her Mass of Celebration.
Her sister Lorna is a well known poet.
Enjoy.

I loved her sister's recounting of the move her family made when they were children. Batbata chose to walk the distance from their old home to the new one, asking her younger sister to walk with her, while the family went ahead in a vehicle. She instructed her sister to memorize all the scenery as they walked toward the new home, to study it all, become completely familiar with it. She told her sister she would never be lost there if she could accomplish her sister's request.

She seemed gifted from childhood with an extraordinary wisdom and perception.

As the Metropolitan gave his eulogy, he discussed conversations he had with Miss G concerning the story of The Woman at The Well from the New Testiment. As he spoke at length on the meaning of the words, and Batbara's study of the story, I realized I had never heard that event explained as fully, until hearing his comments. He absolutely illuminated the meaning of the meeting in a way I had never understood, and I sat near the front of the church every Sunday most of my life, with my mother, had heard the story many, many times over a lot of years.

Was moved to tears several times throughout the tribute, recognized and loved the music, and was amazed by the beauty of the stately, inspired dance by two accomplished professional ballet dancers.

The service was wonderfully prepared and presented. So many people participated flawlessly, with deepest respect. It was easy to see a great person had passed and will never be replaced. Obviously she had deeply meaningful connections with a multitude of people throughout her life, which distinguished her as someone the world needed.

Thank you, malaise.

Babs won a scholarship to St Andrew High, one of the premier all girls schools on the island. To have achieved that back in the day spoke volumes.
Babs was a journalist for the people in print and radio - hilarious and roots.

The two dancers were from the NDTC - National Dance Theatre Company, that was seriously beautiful.

Adding this about her hugs a d who died 11 days before she did
