01/03/2024 07:54:59

Haiti - FLASH : The metropolitan area under attacks Thursday February 29, 2024, the capital and the metropolitan area were the subject of coordinated gang attacks. All activities were paralyzed, schools, private businesses, businesses and public institutions closed their doors. Shootings were heard throughout the capital and its surroundings, the provisional human toll was very heavy and the damage significant.

In a panic wind, thousands of people tried to return to their homes and others fled their neighborhoods in search of safer areas amid the confusion and chaos.

Barricades were reported in different neighborhoods in the metropolitan area of the capital, Port-au-Prince, Delmas 6 was completely blocked.

The very partial report shows several dozen bullet wounds and an undetermined number of deaths. At least 25 people were admitted to the hospital of the State University of Haiti (General Hospital), hospital centers were overwhelmed by the number of cases in a context where blocked roads made access to hospitals difficult. The Peace University Hospital and the Bernard Mevs Hospital were on maximum alert.

The Geuy Malary terminal in Port-au-Prince was machine-gunned, a bullet impact was noted on a seat in the arrival hall of the terminal and bullet impacts were visible on several bay windows of the building some of which were broken against a backdrop of widespread panic.

Several local and international flights have been canceled at the Guy Malary terminal

American-made guns and ammunition?

Probably. Because we're among the worst worldwide proliferators.

From the start, it could have been a beacon of freedom, an example of brave independence. But the powers couldn’t let that happen. This awful timeline, dammit. It’s heartbreaking. And terrifying.

7. They've never forgiven for having to overthrow their vicious "owners:"

When they were successful after their revolution, they assisted Cuba's very large population of "slaves" trying to gain their freedom, too, but, unfortunately, that revolution failed during that attempt so long ago.

Anyone who has bothered to learn what has happened to Haiti after they gained what should have been their freedom, as the US gained its freedom, under far less brutal authorities, also learned they were never allowed a moment of peace, but continued to be targeted by powerful predators, and driven immediately into another kind of servitude.

In the meantime, Washington has carried on as if nothing has ever happened, and has protected the rights of groups which succeeded in turning a profit from the people of Haiti at their great, great expense. They never were able to get a moment's peace after struggling so hard, suffering so greatly.

It could drive people of conscience insane, couldn't it?

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Haitian police were overwhelmed by a series of coordinated violent attacks by gang members across the capital in which four officers were killed, a national police spokesman said Friday.

The attacks Thursday in Port-au-Prince were led by gunmen who opened fire on targets including Haiti’s international airport and seized control of two police stations, prompting people to flee dozens of communities in fear as schools and businesses closed.

“The situation yesterday was horrible,” spokesman Garry Desrosiers said in an interview with Radio Caraibes. “The city center was at war.”

Jimmy Chérizier, a former elite police officer known as Barbecue who now runs a gang federation known as G9 and Family and Allies, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

He said the objective was to capture Haiti’s police chief and government ministers and prevent the return of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who was in Kenya to push for the U.N.-backed deployment of police from the East African nation to fight gangs in Haiti.

5. This is, and has been, a civil war for years....

The violence is bring fueled by warring ex pats sending arms and money to gangs and factional groups all vying for power.

Are there proxy powers behind them? Probably, but it doesn't matter at this point. It's self sustaining.
