Argentine Government Accuses Union Boss of Obstructing Food Deliveries

BUENOS AIRES – The Argentine government on Monday accused truckers union leader Hugo Moyano of wanting to complicate the nationwide distribution of food.

“With this act, Moyano is only (trying) to affect the normal distribution of food. No other explanation can be found,” Labor Minister Carlos Tomada told a press conference, reacting to the blockade that the teamsters established Monday at supermarkets and distribution centers owned and/or operated by the Maxiconsumo chain.

Moyano is demanding that all but 600 of Maxiconsumo’s 1,600 workers move from the retail employees union to the truckers union.

Tomada said that among the workers Moyano is demanding switch unions are sales personnel and cashiers, who work far from the shipping side of the business.
