The UN security council unanimously endorsed the Syrian proposal that Kerry and others presented

'The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution outlining a peace process in Syria.

The 15-member council reached rare agreement on the issue in a session in New York on Friday.

The resolution endorses talks between the Syrian government and opposition in early January, as well as a ceasefire.
The Syrian war, which is heading towards its fifth year, has killed more than 250,000 people and displaced millions more, the UN says.

Lots more work needed - and big questions like the fate of Assad are up in the air, but it has a possibility of a ceasefire by next month.

--- As someone noted on Twitter - this has been quite a week for John Kerry, with the Paris climate change deal on Saturday and this today. (Lots of work behind both) I hope that they can actually end the civil war and rebuild Syria.

We have given and will continue to give ISIS material assistance via 'the moderate rebels'. Now the diplomats are engaged in a lot of double talk; no regime change but Assad has to go.

McCain and the other neocons are still working behind the scenes.

This civil war was driven by US State Department giving arms and aid to rebels to overthrow Assad. We are NOT the peace brokers.

The US role in this war is beyond disgusting.
