Daughter: I lied and sent my dad to prison for rape

http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/08/18/19936408-daughter-i-lied-and-sent-my-dad-to-prison-for-rape?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=1

Chaneya Kelly is on a mission: she wants the world to know about a horrible lie she says she told almost 16 years ago – a lie that cost a man his freedom.

“I'm 24 years old and I made this mistake when I was nine years old,” Chaneya told NBC News, “but it's never too late to try and right your wrong. “

Chaneya says that in 1997, she falsely accused a man of raping her. That man – who has always maintained his innocence -- is Daryl Kelly, Chaneya’s father.

“All I think is, ‘One day the truth will set me free,’” said Kelly, from Green Haven Correctional Facility in upstate New York. “All I have to do is hold on.”

2. I'll think I've heard it all, and then I'll read something like this. Absolutely sickening!

It's a wonder he wasn't killed by one of the other inmates.

6. Actually, even the majority of sex offenders complete their sentences relatively unharmed.

And as much as I despise those who victimize children (and others) I'm not big on vigilantism.

9. I agree with you about not being big on vigilantism.

For example, I believe Jerry Sandusky should be protected from other inmates, as I assume is being done. (Again, my heart bleeds for the victims.)

I was pointing out the complete irresponsibility of making false charges against an innocent man. I can't image what it would be like to be wrongfully imprisoned. It's sickening.

3. I found it odd that the mother couldn't explain herself.

We saw the case on the nightly news last night. My wife and I were puzzled by the Moms lack of insight as to why she would make her daughter do such a thing. She claims she was under the influence of drugs at the time and that's it. It's just odd. Bookmarking the page to read fully. I bet there is a lot more about this story to come.

A mans life has been irrevocably harmed, and all you can muster is "blargle, blargle, MRA!!! blargle yabble!!!"? I think you've got your safe-havens mixed up.

to far more than just one individual. Even as awful as this one man's ordeal has been.

11. I keep reading how this stuff hardly ever happens..

but then you go and do a search on "false rape allegations" or some variation thereof..and you get some interesting hits..cases like Tawana Brawley come up, Brian Banks (who spent 5 years in prison and lost his pro football career), or this woman in the UK who actually falsely accused 5 ex boyfriends of rape before she was finally found out and ended up getting 2 years herself..

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/brian-banks-accuser-ordered-pay-2-6-million-163746471.html

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2358759/Leanne-Black-finally-jailed-FIVE-false-rape-allegations-ex-boyfriends-years.html

Again, I keep hearing how this virtually never occurs, but the evidence would at least suggest it happens more than some advocacy groups would have us believe. The stories up above stand out because they involve celebrity, absurdity in one case, and finally exoneration, but one has to wonder..how many men are sitting in prison right now accused and then convicted of sex crimes who are just as innocent?

12. Someone intimated the other day, to paraphrase, "it's (not) a big deal".

No. IT IS a big fucking deal. I know I take rape allegations very seriously. Everyone should. When someone lies about it, it is still a big fucking deal.
