Related: About this forumHow quickly can Highway Bill dollars be turned into jobs?
Is it reasonable to assume that we can get some projects going by September so that the jobs report in early October reflects this spending?
Can we get even more going in October so the numbers released right before the election look even better?
Back to School spending tends to help these months anyways. Maybe if we can get some more construction jobs going too we can see a downward tick in the unemployment numbers.

(24,331 posts)1. Depends on the project. Probably anywhere from 2 weeks to a year.
The more complicated the job, the longer. So, say, bridge replacement would take a long while, whereas highway repairs will be fairly quick.

but I won't complain about a couple thousand more jobs in the area.
I'm a little worried that if we don't see a positive outcome from this legislation before the election the (R)s will be able to say "We passed a highway bill and still there are no jobs".
We need some strong summer and early fall numbers to help us out November 6th.,

The bulk of the legislation renewed the formula through which the federal government contributes its share of spending on transportation infrastructure projects through fiscal 2014.
Typically, state and local governments determine which transportation projects receive funding and the federal government distributes public funds to help cover the costs.
YMMV
