Saw a really dumb statement in a money.msn.com "item"

(and no, it wasn't from the comments section from some dope).

"... only 41% of workers who have been in dead-end jobs for more than a decade reported ever receiving a promotion."

HUH??? I thought that definition of a "dead-end job" was that there was no hope for promotion ...

we have to remember that the folks at money.msn.com might either not be the brightest crayons in the box or perhaps they too are in dead-end jobs.

to the next lowest, I guess.

At a factory I worked at, the lowest people on the totem pole were the "line people". Then there were "group supervisors" and above them, the "shift supervisors". A few locals became "group supervisors" and maybe 2 or 3 could expect to become a "shift supervisor" somewhere down the line. But that was it, as the company would bring in people from Michigan to fill the higher slots. So, like a "dead-end street", the locals could, possibly, travel a little way, but no further.
