I worked at the planning arm of United Way and everything seemed possible. I tell myself now that eventually the pendulum will swing back our way. It always does, but maybe not in my time.

I did my protesting of the Vietnam War while my brother served in the Army, fighting the Vietnam War.

I would have been in Vietnam with a bunch of my fraternity brothers - one of whom was killed - except the Army rejected me because I have a legally blind eye. So I watched the casualty figures come in on the UPI wire while working in the Baltimore bureau. As the list got longer, my opposition to the war grew stronger!
