Harley-Davidson Sees 'Opportunity' in E-Scooters and E-Bicycles

Harley-Davidson, the company synonymous with big, loud American motorcycles, is trying to figure out how to make money because demand is quickly sinking for big, loud, American motorcycles. Sales dropped 10.2 percent last year, and the Motor Company’s stock value has roughly halved over the last two years. Yes, Harleys are squarely within the category of Things Millennials Are Killing.

Fortunately, Harley-Davidson has a plan of sorts. According to a CNN report, the company is paying close attention to Bird, Lime, and other “mobility” companies using battery-powered products.

From CNN:

New transportation companies such as Bird and Lime have launched thousands of rentable e-scooters in cities but continue to face questions about product quality and safety. Harley-Davidson thinks it can do better, delivering eco-friendly but thrilling power for short distances.

“It’s a huge opportunity,” said Marc McAllister, vice president of product portfolio at Harley-Davidson. “For people who are using Bird and Lime today, how do we give them a much better experience with a Harley-Davidson brand and lifestyle?”

They designed a very nice E-motorcycle but it's priced at around $30k. There are competitors like Zero Motorcycles that sell a competitive bike with twice the range for $10k less.
