Walmart is hiring 20,000 workers and raising its wages ahead of the holiday season and during a labor shortage that is leaving employers struggling for employees. The retailer announced Wednesday there would be 20,000 new business associates hired for more than 250 Walmart and Sams Club distribution centers, fulfillment centers and transportation offices.
Walmart is looking to fill part-time and full-time roles for jobs such as order fillers, freight handlers, lift drivers, technicians and management positions.
The company is also raising the average wage for supply chain associates to $20.37 per hour to attract workers and is holding hiring events from Sept. 8-Sept. 9.
We know that financial stability, health benefits, family support and career development opportunities are all critical factors to weigh when considering a job, and we aim not to just meet but exceed our associates expectations on each of these fronts, the press release states.
The extra hiring and incentives come just before the holiday season is set to begin where many businesses are concerned they wont have the help needed to deal with the increased shopping.

(2,343 posts)I am glad to see this. More big retailers need to follow suit. Most right now dont have enough people working in dcs, warehouses, and cross docks. The entire North American supply chain network, especially railroads and trucking companies, are struggling due to lack of labor. The good thing is anyone wanting to work can these days.

That's really not so hot, either - it's "average", for CDL drivers, forklift operators, and management. These are NOT "stupid-proof" jobs, where any breathing humanoid can fill in for a day!
Those poor wretches at Wally World are still screwn.

(21,696 posts)I talked to a women working there, and she said they have several workers devoted to gathering orders for pick-up, and they haven't hired more people to handle the extra workload.
The people who usually stock the shelves have been diverted, and their work is not getting done. At the same time, corporate management is ordering them to cut back on work hours and overtime.
The place is starting to look like a junk store, with items scattered about willy-nilly and items on the wrong shelves, mismarked prices, and disgruntled workers, many who care more about the store than the management.
