Quote for the Day:

No final history of the United States of America has been written, or is likely to be written. Research is constantly bringing to light new facts that correct details or modify the traditional view of larger questions; and the most impartial historian is subject to personal or sectional bias which leads to his works being regarded as imperfect by another generation, or as unfair by the people of parts of the country other than his own. In such a series as the present, then, it is unwise to represent the story of the growth of this nation by the summary of any one scholar.

Charles W. Eliot. The Harvard Classics: Vol. 43: American Historical Documents. "Introduction." (c) 1910.

territory.

DOW: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EDJI/history?p=%5EDJI
S&P 500: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EGSPC/history?p=%5EGSPC

The S&P 500 closed today, Tuesday, at 4305, which is 10.2% down from the January 5 all-time high of 4797.

Bear markets start at 20% down or more, so we're no longer in "bear market territory"

Corrections are 10-20% down, so were still in "correction territory", but barely, at 10.2% down.

Technically they don't declare an end of a bear market until it has recovered all of its lost ground (meaning in this case a new all-time high), so we've got a ways to go there.

And then we need several more percent to regain the purchasing power it had, sigh.
