Judge rejects Florida teacher evaluation rule

Below are some excerpts from yesterday's ruling. FEA/NEA continues to fight here in Florida against the crazy attacks on teachers. I would never teach again in a state without collective bargaining!

Siding with two teachers and a union, an administrative law judge on Wednesdayrejected a state-approved rule linking teacher performance and pay, declaring it “wholly invalid” because of the way it was pieced together.

Andy Ford, president of the Florida Education Association teachers union, called Van Laningham’s ruling a “huge victory in our battle for fair, reliable and valid evaluations.”

“It’s time for the state’s education bureaucracy to stop trying to impose its will on teachers and administrators and start having a meaningful dialogue with us to put together a fair evaluation system that is understandable, valid and accepted,” Ford said.

in my job, if I screw up - my boss hears about it and is tasked with dealing with it.

Administrators have the tools to deal with poor teachers - why are their responsibilities along these lines not upheld?

the union wants to hold the principals, central administration, etc. equally responsible for "low VA ratings". It's not the only thing and it's complicated (as the judge indicated), but that is one of the arguments
