Workers Take a Stand Against Outsourcing of Union Jobs to Mexico

BCTGM International President Anthony Shelton issued the following statement in support of the members of BCTGM Local 364 (Portland, OR) who are on strike against Nabisco:

“The BCTGM International Union stands in unwavering Solidarity with our courageous Brothers and Sisters in Local 364 who are on strike against Nabisco. After years of Nabisco closing bakeries and moving thousands of BCTGM jobs to Mexico and threatening to move even more jobs to Mexico, our members are saying, ‘We’ve had enough and we’re not taking it anymore.’

“For more than a year throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Nabisco workers in Portland and other locations around the country have been working long, hard hours, day in and day out, to produce Nabisco products for American families.

“Nabisco’s response to these loyal, hardworking employees has been to close two more bakeries in Fairlawn, NJ and Atlanta, GA, ship 1,000 more good, middle-class jobs to Mexico and demand major contract concessions from the workers. Nabisco is making record profits but still this company wants to squeeze more out of its workers.

“Nabisco has absolutely no regard for the well-being of the hardworking, dedicated men and women who make the products that create the company’s massive profits. We are proud of our members in Portland for taking a stand and will support them for as long as it takes to force Nabisco to negotiate a fair contract that makes a commitment to keeping jobs in America.”

5. There was a factory in Phila that smelled so damn good

when we drove past it. Even if we were asleep in the back seat my sister and I would wake up from the sweet, homey smell.

Too bad their policies regarding workers aren't as sweet.
