Minnesota Lawmakers Mull Over Options to Curb Lockouts

>>>
In response to a spate of painful lockouts inflicted by Minnesota employers, the state House’s Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee held a hearing last Wednesday to examine the impact of these imposed work stoppages. Labor advocates saw the hearing as the first step toward legislation that would make lockouts a less appealing option to employers. The hearing was full of testimony on the economic and psychological impact of the current lockouts of workers from American Crystal Sugar, the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, as well as representatives from the Minnesota Wild, who were impacted by the recently settled NHL lockout.
