As the Golden Gate Bridge District Board meets today the possibility of a strike by the 13 unions that comprise the Golden Gate Bridge Labor Coalition is very real. The 450 workers that operate the bridge, buses and ferries in San Francisco Bay are fed up with taking concessions and want real wage increases. Alex Tonnison is co-chair of the labor coalition.

[Alex Tonnison]: “The district’s reporting the best financial situation they’ve been in in over a decade. Our members are expecting to have raises that really just keep up with the cost of living. We’re not asking for anything outrageous. But we’re just saying, look, the membership at this point after three concessionary contracts they want real raises to keep up with the cost of living in the bay area.”
