Man accused in shootings had been fired

DES MOINES (AP) — A disgruntled former worker at a Des Moines trucking company is accused of shooting and killing two employees, one of whom had sued him over a loan.
Police identified the victims of the Thursday night shooting in south Des Moines as Serif Hidic, 30, and Robert Smoot, 49. Officers found their bodies while responding to a 911 emergency call at an address used by LCS Logistics, which leased space from Seibert Trucking. The dispatcher had heard a struggle and gunshots.
Police arrested Ronald J. Hawkinson, 39, in Winterset Thursday night and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.
Hidic filed a lawsuit against Hawkinson in November alleging that Hawkinson defaulted on a $13,000 loan and failed to repay $1,100 lent to Hawkinson for child support payments.
