As a long-time union member, I of course supported the Verizon strikers. And when I passed four of them picketing in front of a Verizon store, I stopped to chat and offer what encouragement I could.

They told me that about 80% of the Verizon customers were ignoring their picket line, and going into the store. I was surprised by that, and not in a good way.

I live in a very heavily Democrat area. The last time a Republican was a mayor of any town around here was probably in the 1930's. And yet most people felt it was OK to cross a picket line.

It's not FDR's party anymore, that's for sure.
