I also don't understand why this subject doesn't get more kicks and recs and authentic discussion at DU; I don't understand why more action in general isn't able to be launched at DU given the many people -- brilliant people -- who visit each day.

I have a gargantuan project waiting in the wings and I would LOVE it if DU got involved as a community to help: a comprehensive national Find Help Directory.

Existing resources vary from community to community and those resources come and go, unfortunately, due to the many budget cuts. To have one resource or portal, with an excellent mobile app which is a lifeline for those who are currently homeless and others living in poverty, is a critical need.

Several nonprofits have tried to launch a version of this but because of internal red tape, it always fizzles out and doesn't stay updated.

I'm going to try to get significant backing, such as from Costco, before opening the crowdfunding opportunity.

This is a service that is desperately needed, and the project to develop it can create quite a few jobs.
