Check out the picture from Life Magazine, 1 girl, 750 boys in the picture at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM). (Nov. 1952)

Scroll down for the next two pages which have some pictures. She had to swim alone because the boys swam in the nude!????
OMG. This was the 1950s? I went there in the 80s, it wasn't the greatest school for ladies since some of the males could be pretty crude. Nevertheless, they were awesome and the school magazine often discusses female alums.

Currently 31% of the about 5700 students are ladies which is a little better than the typical 28% for engineering schools. Things are improving, but slowly. CSM specializes in mining, petroleum engineering, metallurgy, geology, geophysics--all mineral engineering/science areas. However following the commodities collapse of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the basic engineering portion of the school expanded to allow greater specialization in strictly engineering such as electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Today, the school is booming.

The school was never an all-male school, but according to the article there had only been twelve ladies by 1952, four of which graduated. As you may recall many American colleges became more female as the twentieth century progressed.
