Australia hails Canberra's emergence as hydrogen hub
ACT government announces $180m of private investment to help bring hydrogen energy storage technology to the Australian capital

Canberra is set to become a world leading hub for emerging hydrogen fuel cell and energy storage technologies, following confirmation of $180m of new private sector investment in a series of pioneering hydrogen technology projects.
That is the hope of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government, which this week announced plans to deliver the country's first hydrogen fuelled car fleet and service station.
The new investment will come from a number of renewable energy developers and technology blue chips, which were successful in the territory's recent 200MW Next Generation Renewables auction. As part of the auction, those companies that secured contracts to deliver renewable power also had to come forward with contributions to support the government's vision to make Canberra an "internationally recognised centre for renewable energy innovation and investment".
Consequently, Neoen and Megawatt Capital, the developers behind the Hornsdale Wind Farm, have announced plans to invest $55m in partnership with Siemens and Hyundai to establish a 1.25MW hydrogen electrolyser, capable of converting electricity to hydrogen...snip
