Almost all of the 5 plus year ice is gone.
Although the sea ice extent is greater than 2012, that ice is broken and slushy.
Which is what the original poster's picture represents, Slushy ice at the North Pole is
not good.

If you go to the image select tab, on the right, you can see ice thickness and concentration.
At the top you can change the year.

Open water at the North Pole during the summer is almost guaranteed in the next few years, if 2016 was any indication of what the future holds.

And with the news that forecasters have cancelled their La Nina prediction for the year, I don't think the Arctic will be getting much of a recovery.
