Deep current of record-breaking warm water causes concerns for the Gulf of Maine

Canadian scientists have measured record-breaking temperatures in the deep water flowing into the principal oceanographic entrance to the Gulf of Maine, prompting concerns about effects on marine life.

The deep current entering the gulf via the Northeast Channel – a deep passage between the Georges and Browns banks – normally consists of chillingly cold water originating off Labrador and Greenland, and contributes to Maine’s unusually productive ocean waters.

But this month researchers working from the Canadian Coast Guard cutter Hudson recorded temperatures exceeding 57 degrees at depths of 150 to 450 feet – nearly 11 degrees above normal for this time of year and the highest seen in 15 years of surveys.

“It looks like there’s a big rush of warm water going into the gulf,” said David Hebert, a research scientist at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, which undertook the research. “It was really surprising.”

1. Unacceptable.

We already were far behind the 8-Ball with global warming results in our atmosphere. We had NO time to waste. President Clinton would've kept up the fight. Not only is he destroying our country, but, vicariously he's destroying the world with EPA restrictions being completely reversed. He's a clear and present danger to the health and well being of the republic and humanity. This world had no leeway for wasting time or another dictator. It's a clown show with mortal implications. I'm tired of asking Mr Mueller to hurry up. He should've been removed from office a year ago. The American People need an Injunction for Irreversible Harm. Get him out. Then we can clean up his mess like his Father did his whole life. He golfs, while the poles melt. He gets nasty whenever asked about anything, and, it's just not who we are. We are in very dark times. At this rate, there's absolutely no guarantee of more "times", for any of the worlds peoples. 11 degrees above normal is a vastly troubling report.
