As the article notes, the environment is also hostile to sophisticated robots. I suspect what will work best is going to be relatively humble technology that makes little to no use of silicon brains.

This disaster will require patience.

Unlike most of the other industrial toxins spilled by the tsunami, toxins having a half life of FUCKING FOREVER, the worst radioactive shit at Fukushima will have decayed in a few hundred years.

But we're all very well trained to ignore the non-radioactive shit.
