President Trump's online campaign merchandise store has already sold out of the "Trump"-stamped sets of red plastic drinking straws that first became available for purchase less than 24 hours ago. The listing drew an avalanche of attention this morning after Trump's 2020 campaign manager tweeted a photo of the straws (Greenwire, July 19).

Aside from the seemingly excessive $15 price tag, many Twitter users were quick to point out the irony in the website's claim that the straws — quickly understood to be an attempt to poke fun at plastic straw bans nationwide — are BPA-free, reusable and recyclable. "There is something perfectly Trump about using grievance at the straw scolds and the soggy paper straws they have forced on us to market ... reusable plastic straws, priced at $1.50 apiece," said one tweet.

Despite the environmental concerns, some tweets revealed a simple rejection of biodegradable paper straws. "Listen, I'm all for saving the sea turtles but if we are to continue enjoying milkshakes we simply MUST find an alternative to paper straws," said one tweet.

"Ok paper straws. I want to help the environment, I really do. But the horrible, mushy, pulpy taste of paper halfway through my gin and tonic has made me incredibly depressed and has taken the joy away of a cold delicious alcoholic drink on a hot summer day," said another tweet.

In the Kerry/Bush election, the right wingers had this conservative ketchup so they would be protesting Heinz ketchup, which they thought was enriching Kerry’s wife. She had sold her part of Heinz. The conservative ketchup was very expensive and then you had to pay shipping, which was not cheap either. I emailed one of the companies wondering if they had actually bought or leased a factory to make a short-term fad product. They contracted it out to a gourmet ketchup company ---- in California.

The conservative sheeple were buying overpriced ketchup from Liberalfornia to protest something that was not happening.

I wished them well in their endeavors. They found a niche market to make a good buck off the easily led.

Funny thing – Heinz Corp was primarily supporting republicans.
