I take mine to the local Staples. I think Home Depot takes them as well.

When possible, I use rechargeable batteries now.

In the store for battery recycling. I would call the stores you frequent to see if they recycle batteries.

It did anyway. I haven't been to the library in a long time (and thought to check), so I can't say for sure that it still does.

In the condo complex where I live, there's a battery bin in the dumpster room, that's where I take my coffee can full of dead batteries when it gets full.
