Climate Change Will Create 1.5 Billion Migrants by 2050 and We Have No Idea Where They'll Go
The climate crisis has already created millions of invisible refugees and could create up to 1.5 billion more in the next 30 years. But under international law no country is obliged to take them in.

Indigenous people and people of color are disproportionately affected by our global climate crisis. But in the mainstream green movement and in the media, they are often forgotten or excluded. This is Tipping Point, a new VICE series that covers environmental justice stories about and, where possible, written by people in the communities experiencing the stark reality of our changing planet.

Because climate change is not yet seen as a valid legal reason for asylum in any country, it is not included as a claim for their case. Yet the climate crisis played a central role in their decision to leave.
Last summer, in my region, there was tremendous heat for a month, and half of all the plants dried, Ysaias said in a case declaration. Because of the heat, farmers are planting fewer crops and planting more grass for cattle. Because landowners are planting more grass, there are fewer jobs maintaining crops.

(19,224 posts)I've given up on this issue after seeing the projections for Central America and southern Mexico's climate. Once the refugees start streaming in by the millions, we won't be welcoming them in. The same will happen (is already happening) in Europe; it will happen in India when Bangladesh floods, it is happening in Australia as islands become unliveable.
And in many nations, the refugees will be internal. Remember the "No Okies" signs during the Great Depression? We'll see shantytown refugee camps of our fellow citizens.
The flood of climate refugees will bring out the worst in us, I'm afraid.

(118,501 posts)person who lives. So the republicans will claim with the big die off that they are helping reduce climate change. I see no emergency pressue on the Pontif from Trump to allow all methods of birth control because if given and education and a choice women on every continent choose to have just less than 2 children. Which would reduce the pressure on the environment. But no. Trump wants to build a wall and do it the die off way.
