March 2012 radiation levels in Fukushima City 40+% lower than June 2011

According to NHK News, a survey of airborne radiation in Fukushima City taken in March 2012 showed airborne radiation levels that were more than 40% lower than what they were in June 2011, when the first citywide survey was taken.

In the surveys, conducted by the municipal government, the city was divided into 783 zones. Zones in populated areas were 500 meters X 500 meters, while zones in sparsely populated hilly/mountainous areas were 1km X 1km. There were a total of 2916 measuring points, each 1 meter above the ground, in the surveys. Radiation levels of more than 1 microsievert per hour were recorded at 28% of the measuring points, while the levels did not exceed 1 microsievert per hour at the other 72%. The levels at all measuring points were lower than in the June 2011 survey. The results will be posted on Fukushima City's homepage ( http://www.city.fukushima.fukushima.jp/ ) later this month.

Fukushima City is approximately 40 miles NW of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex and has been downwind of the reactors for much of the time since the March 2011 disasters.

and then it will be revised. The half life of that shit doesn't go away in a few months. They haven't been exactly truthful in the past so why believe them now.

The sites are managed by the city of Fukushima-- not TEPCO, and not the Japanese government. The people conducting the measurements are locals, and they have a vested interest in knowing the actual values.

Also, different isotopes have different half-lives. While Cs-137 has a half-life of 30 years, Cs-134 has a half-life of only 2 years, and Iodine-131 has a half-life of just 8 days. Most of the measured radiation was Cs-134 and I-131. Also, a lot of the ground radiation has been washed away by rain, snow, and wet paddy farming.
