Another Very Cool Report From The Returning Rapids Project On Changes In Cataract Canyon

For the last few years, RRP, a mix of river rats, geologists, hydrologists and historians, has been working to systematically track changes in Cataract Canyon and Lake Powell as water levels fall and as rivers and streams chew their way through sediment, putting it back into motion heading downstream.

As rapids and canyons reemerge, they've been building a baseline using historic and contemporary photos, maps, surveying and bathymetry. For me as a river geek, it's fascinating to watch this. Beyond that, their efforts may be of substantial value as drought continues and reservoirs shrink in the West.

Anyway, enjoy!
