EDIT
What are some things that you do feel that there can be bipartisan support on?
Curtis: Its important that Republicans turn a page. Weve done a fabulous job of telling people what we dont like. It is important that we tell them what we like. One thing we would ask of [our Democratic colleagues] is a better articulation of the overall goal of reducing worldwide greenhouse gas emissions and what that looks like. Wed like to have some really thoughtful discussions with our Democratic colleagues about nuclear. And I think its fair to say that there are some concerns with nuclearI share some of those concernsbut Im going to bet we can innovate past those concerns, such as what to do with spent fuel rods and safety.
Another one where theres broad bipartisan support is hydrogen, a potential game changer for a worldwide solution that could become a low-cost alternative to China and to Russia.
One where we probably have some disagreementbut its important to usthats the actual use of fossil fuels, particularly natural gas that has helped the U.S. reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In Russia, in Indianatural gas could be the low-cost leader immediately and cause them to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Im willing to join my Democratic colleagues in their calls for more control on methane. Thats one where wed say, Hey, work with us on natural gas, and well work with you on methane.

(29,205 posts)Hydrogen is NOT a fuel source.
It is a possible energy transport and storage mechanism. That's all.
It is like a battery.
It takes energy to make hydrogen, and then you can get energy back out of hydrogen through some chemical process or other ( fuel cells, ICE, etc).
To date, the transportation industry has not gained wide acceptance of the use of hydrogen as a "battery" for vehicles mostly because it is very hard to contain long term (read papers on hydrogen embrittlement in various metals).
