It's 69 degrees in eastern Washington state,

in the east slopes of the Cascades at 1600 ft., on 12/1, with 0 snow in the mountains and I'm trying to hold back my panic.

We will lose everything if we don't have a snowpack this winter.

It is 66 degrees and sunny here in Missoula at the moment. I'm at 3500 ft and we have a skiff of snow in the surrounding mountains.

This is so far from normal and it is very scary. Got in a huge fight with my spouse about it last night. He was saying "christ, its not like it won't snow again." It was all I could do to extricate myself from the room before saying something I would regret.

our household is headed that way.

I always figured when the tipping point was reached it would go fast. Any observer of nature knows that.

Stay in touch. Let's try to figure this out together.

See the other OP here about your awesome Sen. Tester - a fierce advocate for facing up to climate change. A farmer, as you know. He knows what he's talking about.

I'll go look for it now.

I went for two long hikes this past weekend. I saw lots of brown where plants had died back after the hard frosts of late October but new growth was sprouting up already! Unbelievable. I've never seen that this time of year and I'm on the trails year round.

I'm worried about sufficient pasture and hay for my small (only 2 now) horse herd next year. So, I'm making a late purchase of additional! At least they can graze in December...a first..

If I were there I'd love to hike with you! We came down into Missoula over Lolo Pass on a road trip in October. Such country!

And we got an inch of rain last night, which we desperately needed.

In December.

In Minnesota.

It should be 30F out there We should be ice fishing and snowmobiling by now.

But 69 degrees is a bit warm for the time of year.

I live in Everett and didn't need a jacket when I went to get today's mail.
