5. I know it runs against human nature, but we don't have to find a "use" for everything.

Does everything have to become a "resource?"

Let the cold lake water be cold lake water.

Do we really have to cover our deserts with solar panels, our seas with wind turbines, our mountains with reservoirs, and our prairies with cornfields?

When do we stop being clever apes and start thinking about where we want to be in the 22nd century?

I won't be around then but many children born today will be.

fuel that will be created by wind turbines on Coastal Newfoundland where nobody lives. Some in Nova Scotia too. It is years away from being a reality. Are you saying we should not make the investment now so that we can survive in 2200? The government of Nfld is being cautious and demanding an exit plan for the turbines when they age out of use (unlike oil which has left a ****load of drilling sites uncapped after they leave). What about income for these have not provinces. A win, win, win.

Hooray, the world is saved!

The interesting thing about Switzerland is that their electric grid is almost entirely powered by hydroelectricity and nuclear power. They don't need to use the lake in this manner to reduce carbon emissions.

For most of Switzerland's industrial history Lake Geneva was used as an open cesspool and most of the fish were dead by the 'eighties. The water was not safe to swim in.

Now the lake is slowly recovering.

It bothers me that people are still thinking up industrial uses for the lake. Water drawn from the lake for cooling will have to be treated to prevent equipment fouling and will be biologically dead when it's returned to the lake. The system will also create unnatural temperature swings and gradients in the lake. All so someone can make some money.

...including of course, the willful destruction of an ecosystem to serve an already failed wishful thinking scheme.
