First Green Hydrogen Demonstration Plant Completed in Western Australia

First Green Hydrogen Demonstration Plant Completed in Western Australia

Energy Matters | November 21, 2022

The first renewable hydrogen demonstration plant has been completed in the town of Denham in Western Australia (WA). The plant will test the technical and commercial viability of emissions-free fuel as a “baseload power source,” according to Renew Economy.

The plant has a 348kW electrolyser, a hydrogen compression and storage system, and a 100kW fuel cell.

The plant was commissioned by Horizon Power, a WA government-owned utility as part of their renewable microgrid. Hybrid Systems Australia built and designed it with Pacific Energy subsidiary ENGV.

What will it do?

The project will convert electricity from the plant to make green hydrogen in sun-drenched Denham. Then, the hydrogen will be used to power a fuel cell that is capable of generating enough energy to supply around 100 homes.

The hydrogen fuel cell will be plugged into the existing stand-alone power system. When it is fully operational. The hydrogen project may reduce diesel use by 140,000 litres a year. Diesel displacement is in focus here due to the rising costs and the country’s dependency on imports for its supply...more

It's a safe bet that Hydrogen Bashers haven't read a single one of the >30 National Hydrogen Strategies published over the last 2-3 years. NOT A SINGLE ONE. How's that for "informed"??

Nature Editorial: Overhyping hydrogen as a fuel risks endangering net-zero goals

I happen to know that educated people don't read any of the 30 National Hydrogen Strategies because some of us are aware that it's been bullshit for 50 years, another stupid fad that doesn't stand up to scrutiny and is, in fact, an extremely dangerous fantasy that will make things worse, not better.

So called "renewable energy" is also a useless fad.

Reality:

As the Nature editorial points out, making hydrogen out of this unreliable junk makes it even more expensive, wasteful, and useless.

How the HYDROGEN REVOLUTION can help save the planet — and how it can’t

Many researchers see a huge role for the gas in decarbonizing economies.

Nature.com | The world's most prestigious scientific journal... | 16 November 2022

...Making steel green is just one of the ways that hydrogen is now expected to help decarbonize the world’s economy. Although some have touted hydrogen’s use as a transportation fuel, it’s unlikely to have much impact in that sector or in heating, for which batteries and electrical power already provide more efficient low-carbon solutions. Rather, hydrogen’s biggest contribution will be to clean up industrial processes, from producing plastics and fertilizers to refining hydrocarbons. These industries have conventionally been thought of as harder to decarbonize, and have received less attention from the media, investors and policymakers.

Even these people will realize H2 is for transportation when many truck stops sell hydrogen and their friends with H2 cars don't stop for 45 minutes every 300 miles to get more range

Hydrogen might find uses in energy production, too. Liquid fuels made from hydrogen might one day power air travel and shipping. And hydrogen could even help to decarbonize the electricity grid: excess solar or wind power could be diverted into making the gas, which could then be used in other industrial processes or simply to store energy. In this way, hydrogen is expected to act as a bridge between many different sectors of the economy...more

LOL The "hydrogen revolution" (per nature.com- "The world's most prestigious scientific journal&quot will completely pass you by.

BTW, Can't seem to figure out why nuclear energy isn't more popular, what with the likes of you as ambassadors

Of course, this sick practice, known as the logical fallacy as the "bandwagon fallacy" - the internet has thousands of references to it- including other terms like "appeal to popularity," is highly utilized in advertising, with advertising the hydrogen scam only a subset of such advertising, albeit routinely embraced by people lacking a shred of sophistication.

People who don't remotely grasp the second law of thermodynamics, who are merely repeating tiresome dogma- driven by advertising and more recently by slick videos - are only laughable when they try to make soothsaying claims about science to which they obviously haver limited or no exposure.

Science is often funded by popular nonsense, which is why there are so many thousands of papers on hydrogen. Tens upon tens of thousands of them over the last 40 years have not made hydrogen, other than in captive industrial use, a viable consumer product.

The 2nd law of thermodynamics is operative irrespective of polling or popularity.

I trust you will haver a pleasant holiday. One hopes that no hydrogen fueled ovens baking dead birds will suffer from hydrogen embrittlement and explode.

It averages 8" of rain a year. That's Western Australia for you.

Since I didn't see anything about a desalination plant in the mix, it's probably safe to assume they're pumping fossil water from an aquifer at a wildly unsustainable rate to make that hydrogen.

But hey, that seems to be the standard operating procedure for green hydrogen, as most of the plants are in sunny deserts lacking long-term water resources.

Looking at the current state of global water resources, I'm pretty sure access to suitable water will limit the hydrogen economy more than anything else.
