The most accurate preseason prediction was the first one from December of last year by Colorado State University. Even by the end of the mid-season predictions in August, every organization was predicting an above-average season. Here's the totals (average in parenthesis).
Named Storms - 14 (14.4)
Hurricanes - 8 (7.2)
Major Hurricanes - 2 (3.2)
Accumulated Cyclonic Energy - 95.1 units (72-111 units)

There's been a 55% increase in home prices there in the past 3 years so getting hit there by two hurricanes, one of them major, definitely increased the damage costs.
