to act. Stopping Big Fossil will take hurting them, not just calling their "pathetic little sliver" bullshit.

Good news is not mitigating the bad news.

Why? Fossil fuel industry lobbyists, fixers, fraud, falsehoods, capture of the policy making process. In spite of good men and women who work in their industry.

Big Fossil can pledge to support the Paris Agreement or increase oil and gas. But it can't do both.

Gore is rightfully pissed. And so should all governments be.

Yes, they take us for fools.

Global gaslighting of humans is nothing personal, just business. Has been for 50 years and always will be.

...is corporate welfare once removed.

the fossil-profiteers will continue to drill and mine. and the tax payers will fund both the carbon capture efforts and any "Green tax credits" gifted to the fossil-profiteers for programs they will never complete. So in the end the tax payers (us) pay for both.

The fossil-profiteers should carry the entire burden of carbon capture. and their profits should be regulated along with consumer pricing. That would go a long way toward funding carbon reduction.

Now for a "Reality Check"!...

Every fossil-profiteer had evolved themselves into multi-national conglomerates. They will move and shift across borders and governments as they wish. So addressing this issue will take a consortium of governments and that will never happen since their lobbyists are deeply embedded in nearly every government. We are doomed.

The fossilists will be laughing all the way the burning bank with all the leftover worthless money while our bones are left bleaching in the sun... (wow, that was me being insightful on a Saturday morning after a "fortified breakfast drink"!)

an excuse to keep polluting. Fossilists don't even have to accomplish anything, all they need to do is say "We're on it!" and their tame governments will shove even more money at them. Subsidized coming and going.

I think all those trillions of wealth they've sequestered over the generations should be used to relieve the misery of the people who made that wealth to begin with. Relocate coastal populations, feed climate refugees, clean up drinking water, pay for clean energy projects.

I suppose we'll dither around until drastic geoengineering and carbon capture become necessary, in a too little, too late manner. If so, the profiteers should indeed pay, since they paid for the campaign to delay action.

Sounds to me like he's talking about legacy CO2, and there's a picture of one.

Think. Again.

I watched the portion of Al Gore's video that you suggested and I see his point.

Yes, Direct carbon capture can also be used by the fossil fuel companies in the same way I was warning that 'source capture' could be used: the fossil fuel companies will argue that if we capture the atmospheric CO2, then there is no need to stop burning fossil fuels. Not a good thing.

Gore makes an excellent point on that.

But it also makes sense to me that if removing legacy CO2 will help to decrease the overall amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.

Gore's statistics are different from Biden's statistics also.

Since I now don't have a firm position on the topic, I'm deleting the reply that you replied to, but I would like to leave you with this link to Biden's argument in favor of Direct Carbon Capture: https://www.energy.gov/articles/biden-harris-administration-announces-12-billion-nations-first-direct-air-capture

It could very well be that since Biden HAD to include carbon capture in the IRA thanks to Manchin, his administration us putting a positive spin on it.

I plan to to a lot more research on trusted opinions on this issue, thank you again.

So I looked up how many metric tons of CO2 the US emits, and it was 5981 million in 2020.
/2= 2990.5
I think it could make a difference (with maybe a thousand of these, or even 500).

But Al Gore's point was mostly the cost, and that it wasn't decreasing. I'm just going to believe him on that.

Maybe, if the ff companies build them with their own money, for PR purposes, it could be viable?

I will start following this too.

ETA: Trying to reconcile the figures: globally in 2022: 37.12 billion metric tons.
That's (if I didn't make a mistake) 589 tons/second.
2 million would be 57 minutes worth.
Yeah it doesn't work out.

Think. Again.

...I think it's worth watching, especially with the research and development money Biden has now dedicated to the technology. As with any new tech, advancements and economic scaling will throw all the existing numbers out the window sooner or later.

The real obstacle is still, as always, not allowing the fossil fuel industry to continue killing people for profit by abusing these efforts in order to keep burning ff's.

The main goal (or necessity really), is to stop burning fossil fuels. Clean up efforts of any and all kinds need to be looked at as a separate effort, and my personal opinion is that there is no cost too big to save lives and even the integrity of our social structures in the future, but I know my own individual opinion is only that, one opinion.

Gore may not want anything that could allow the ff companies to say it's now okay to keep burning ffs, not that he'd actually lie. But politics aside, we do need something like this that actually removes CO2.
